On the 18th, we were in Nikko for a day. Nikko is a big cultural center, and we stayed in a traditional Japanese Inn, called a Ryoukan. The floors in our room were tatami floors, and we had to be careful on them. We all slept on futons as well, which were extremely comfy. The Ryoukan also served dinner to us, which was a traditional Japanese meal consisting of things like fish, rice, tempura, and miso soup. It was delicious!
In Nikko, there was a little festival going on that day. We all went to a nearby temple and shrine to pray and sightsee. There was a parade that day as well, but we didn't get to see a lot of it. They had horses dressed up in traditional tack too, which was great to see. I (of course) had to pet some of the horses, and they were really sweet!
We also saw a beautiful, huge waterfall in Nikko. Monkeys apparently live by the waterfall, and they can be dangerous, but we never saw one. I kind of wanted to see one, though...
Long story short, Nikko was awesome! I wish we could have stayed for more than a day, but I guess I'll just have to come back someday!
